This bar outside the most touristy part of town, founded nearly a century ago, is a favourite with locals. Stylish décor with a long designer bar surrounded by tables. On the lower level they serve classic local platters. Their pintxos are superb, including the anchovies with sautéed garlic and hot pepper, the ropa vieja with long-finned tuna or the croquettes. And to finish, a pantxineta pastry. Service is somewhat erratic. A safe bet.
